The 7Zip archives can be extracted with almost any archiver released. Typically, the recommended way is by using the 7Zip application available for downloading through the application's page at Software Informer. However, you can use WinRAR as well, but the 7Zip is open-source and it can be used for as long as you want.

Visit the application's page to download it, then install it and right click the archive and extract the contents of the 7Z archive: http://7-zip.software.informer.com/

To encrypt a file or folder with 7Zip, install 7Zip then right click a folder and select Add to archive. To encrypt the files, you will have to add a password. Input the password two times and then choose the Encryption protocol. For the 7Z archive you can choose AES-256 encryption protocol which is the highest and the recommended one to be used. You also have the possibility of encrypting file names. To do this, check the Encrypt file names option.

After you have installed it, you will find 7-zip in the context menu of Windows Explorer. If not, just reboot and it will be there. To zip a set of files, just select them or the folder and right-click on the selection. In the contextmenu that appears, select "7-zip" arrow to the right > "Add to Archive.." in order to get the full options window to select archive type, compression level and location.

You can customize the look of the 7Zip Archiver with the help of an application called 7Zip Theme Manager.

This application is available for downloading from the following website: http://www.7ztm.de/index.php?cat=01_English

To apply a theme, download and install the application, then start it. The software will automatically detect the 7Zip installation and provide additional warnings if there are any.

I packed my document with 7-zip Archive: music, photo, docs and others a couple of weeks ago. After I reinstalled the OS and tried to unpack this ZIP archive to my PC, 7-zip gave an error message: "Can't open file 'xxxx.7z' as archive". I didn't see this message on this archive. How to fix this error?

A
Answer by Alex Urbach

If you directly try to open the application without the 7ZIP application, then the message above might appear. This is especially for archives created with 7ZIP application. My advice is to re-install the 7ZIP application again and then try unpacking it.

Additionally, if you receive the same error and didn't assign any password to the archive, then you can use a recovery application. Visit the database of Software Informer to download an application of this type.

I have 7-Zip downloaded and installed on my computer. How do I open and use the CD label template?

A
Answer by Aiden McLeod

7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression rate. You can use it to create archives or to decompress files and it can work with lots of file types. However, it doesn't have a feature which you can use to create CD labels. To do this, you can use the Software Informer's database to search for a program that can complete this task. For more information regarding 7-Zip, visit its official website.
